SA COVID-19 Infections Rise to 538,184 – Deaths Jump to 9,604

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 538,184.

This is an increase of 8,307 from Wednesday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 306 bringing the total to 9,604.

Gauteng has the most infections with 187,631 followed by Western Cape at 98,599, Eastern Cape at 81,014, KwaZulu-Natal 90,115, Free State 26,123, North West 21,044, Mpumalanga 17,803, Limpopo 9,873, Northern Cape 5,932 and unallocated infections 50.

The total number of recoveries to date is 387,316 which translates to a recovery rate of 72%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,149,807 this is an increase of 36,616 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report a further 306 COVID-19 related deaths: 66 from Eastern Cape, 75 from Gauteng, 78 from KwaZulu Natal, 46 from Western Cape, 23 from Free State and 18 from Northern Cape. This brings the cumulative number of deaths to 9,604.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
