SA COVID-19 Deaths Jump to 9,298 – Infections Rise to 529,877

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 529,877.

This is an increase of 8,559 from Tuesday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 414 bringing the total to 9,298.

Gauteng has the most infections with 185,282 followed by Western Cape at 98,031, Eastern Cape at 80,400, KwaZulu-Natal 87,798, Free State 25,232, North West 20,686, Mpumalanga 17,135, Limpopo 9,625, Northern Cape 5,638 and unallocated infections 50.

The total number of recoveries to date is 377,266 which translates to a recovery rate of 71%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,113,191 this is an increase of 34,989 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report a further 414 COVID-19 related deaths: 135 from Eastern Cape, 45 from Gauteng, 62 from KwaZulu Natal, 34 from Western Cape, 16 from Mpumalanga and 122 from the Free State. This brings the cumulative number of deaths to 9,298.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
