SA COVID-19 Infections Rise to 511,485 – Deaths at 8,366

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 511,485.

This is an increase of 8,195 from Saturday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 213 bringing the total to 8,366.

Gauteng has the most infections with 180,532 followed by Western Cape at 96,838, Eastern Cape at 79,410, KwaZulu-Natal 82,300, Free State 23,099, North West 19,961, Mpumalanga 15,120, Limpopo 9,044, Northern Cape 5,131 and unallocated infections 50.

The total number of recoveries to date is 347,227 which translates to a recovery rate of 68%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,036,779 this is an increase of 34,794 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report a further 213 COVID-19 related deaths: 25 from Eastern Cape, 40 from Gauteng, 31 from KwaZulu Natal, 43 from Western Cape, 51 from the Free State and 23 from Limpopo. This brings the cumulative number of COVID-19 related deaths to 8,366.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
