The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 493,183.
This is an increase of 11,014 from Thursday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 193 bringing the total to 8,005.
Gauteng has the most infections with 175,272 followed by Western Cape at 95,223, Eastern Cape at 77,938, KwaZulu-Natal 76,706, Free State 21,262, North West 19,325, Mpumalanga 14,101, Limpopo 8,565, Northern Cape 4,741 and unallocated infections 50.
The total number of recoveries to date is 326,171 which translates to a recovery rate of 66%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 2,959,535 this is an increase of 41,486 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably, we report a further 193 COVID-19 related deaths: 8 from Eastern Cape, 103 from Gauteng, 36 from KwaZulu Natal, 33 from Western Cape and 13 from Mpumalanga. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 8,005.”
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
