The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 434,200.
This is an increase of 12,204 from Friday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 312 bringing the total to 6,655.
Gauteng has the most infections with 156,821 followed by Western Cape at 91,033, Eastern Cape at 72,772, KwaZulu-Natal 60,532, Free State 15,512, North West 16,942, Mpumalanga 10,417, Limpopo 6,732, Northern Cape 3,389 and unallocated infections 50.
The total number of recoveries to date is 263,054 which translates to a recovery rate of 60.6%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 2,730,812 this is an increase of 46,324 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably, we report a further 312 COVID-19 related deaths: 44 from Eastern Cape, 209 from Gauteng, 37 from KwaZulu Natal, 18 from Western Cape and 4 from the Northern Cape. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 6,655.”
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
