SA COVID-19 Infections Rise to 408,052 – Deaths at 6,093

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 408,052.

This is an increase of 13,104 from Wednesday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 153 bringing the total to 6,093

Gauteng has the most infections with 148,854 followed by Western Cape at 88,928, Eastern Cape at 69,445, KwaZulu-Natal 53,406, Free State 13,443, North West 15,901, Mpumalanga 8,987, Limpopo 6,068, Northern Cape 2,970 and unallocated infections 50.

The total number of recoveries to date is 236,260, which translates to a recovery rate of 58%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 2,632,106 this is an increase of 46,632 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report a further 153 COVID-19 related deaths: 48 from Eastern Cape, 31 from Gauteng, 38 from KwaZulu Natal, 8 from Northern Cape and 28 from Western Cape and. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 6,093.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
