The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 337,594
This is an increase of 13,373 from Thursday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 135 bringing the total to 4,804
Gauteng has the most infections with 123,408 followed by Western Cape at 84,254, Eastern Cape at 58,860, KwaZulu-Natal 37,722, Free State 8,290, North West 12,722, Mpumalanga 6,073, Limpopo 4,160, Northern Cape 2,044 and unallocated infections 61.
The total number of recoveries to date is 178,183, which translates to a recovery rate of 52.8%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 2,373,053 this is an increase of 48,130 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably, we report a further 135 COVID-19 related deaths – this brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 4,804.”
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
