Egypt Receives International Tourists Amidst Pandemic

July 04, 2020

Egypt has received more than 800 visitors on the third day of it having resumed of international flights. Passengers arrived at Cairo International Airport from France, Belgium, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Lebanon on Thursday night.

Egypt Today reports that Tourism Minister, Khaled Al-Enani, in June, said that Egypt would be prepared to welcome tourists back in the governorates of South Sinai, the Red Sea and Matrouh, in July. He said that authorities decided to resume international flights to some cities amid the coronavirus crisis. Enani added, “With its beautiful sandy beaches, its warm sun and crystal blue waters, Egypt is ready to welcome tourists back.”

Enani posted pictures of himself on Instagram while making a trip to Matrouh, the country’s North Coast and Alexandria, to follow up on hotels and resorts that received the ministry’s “Hygiene Safety Certificate.” The certificate enables hotels to receive foreign guests. Enani also visited hospitals in those governorates, as well as several museums and archaeological sites opening to visitors.

Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has established a lengthy set of rules for the re-opening of tourist accommodation and sites. This includes tourist establishments operating only at half capacity until further notice, only two children aged below 12 allowed with guests in a room, and that the number of tourists in a group should not exceed 25.

Spas, buffet meals, and the country’s famous shisha will not be allowed.

Any tourist establishment found to be flouting the rules will find itself shut down, with its license revoked.
