COVID-19 Deaths in SA Jumps to 1,930, Infections Spike to 97,302

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 97,302

This is an increase of 4,621 from Saturday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 53 bringing the total to 1,930.

The Western Cape has the most infections with 51,441 followed by Gauteng at 20,822 Eastern Cape at 15,751, KwaZulu-Natal 5,030, Free State 733, North West 2,148, Mpumalanga 573, Limpopo 564, Northern Cape 237 and unallocated infections 3.

The total number of recoveries to date is 51,608 this translates to a recovery rate of 53%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 1,328,060 this is an increase of 34,452 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report a further 53 COVID-19 related deaths- 8 from Gauteng, 1 from Kwa-Zulu Natal, 17 from Eastern Cape and 27 from Western Cape. This brings the total deaths to 1930. The mortality rate is 1,98%.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
