The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 65,736.
This is an increase of 3,809 from Friday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 69 bringing the total to 1,423
The Western Cape has the most infections with 40,605, followed by Gauteng at 9,897, Eastern Cape at 9,250 KwaZulu-Natal 3,763, Free State 457, North West 977, Mpumalanga 271, Limpopo 309, Northern Cape 144 and unallocated infections 63.
The total number of recoveries to date is 36,850, this translates to a recovery rate of 56%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 1,087,887 this is an increase of 27,462 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably, we report a further 69 COVID-19 related deaths: 36 from Western Cape, 9 from the Eastern Cape, and 24 from Gauteng. This brings the total national deaths to 1 423 with a mortality rate of 2,2%.”
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families.
