COVID-19 Infections Spike to 34,357, Deaths Jump to 705

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 34,357

This is an increase of 1,674 from Sunday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 22 bringing the total to 705

The Western Cape has the most infections with 25,567, followed by Gauteng at 4,231, KwaZulu-Natal 2,565, Free State 285, North West 187, Mpumalanga 131, Limpopo 192, Eastern Cape 4,111, Northern Cape 82 and unallocated infections 6.

The total number of recoveries to date is 17,291.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 742,742, this is an increase of 17,617 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably we report an increase in the number of deaths to 705. In the Western Cape there are 22 new deaths bringing the total to 525 in the Province.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families.
