As the country enters Level 3 of the national COVID-19 lockdown, South African Muslims will be happy that with Allah’s permission congregational salaah is once again allowed in Masaajid across South Africa.
President Cyril Ramaphosa during an address to the nation last week announced that places of worship may be reopened under strict regulations.
While religious gatherings have been allowed from 1 June, health, hygiene and social distancing protocols must be in place and observed at Masaajid, Churches, Synagogues, Temples and other places of worship.
Congregational worship is also limited to 50 people while worshippers must maintain a 1.5 meters distance between each other.
Speaking during Radio Islam’s morning drive programme Sabaahul Muslim on Monday, Ml Sulaimaaan Ravat says the 1st of June is a day when we reconnect with the Masaajd or the House of Allah.
“We should thank Allah for this bounty. It’s not the ideal, it’s not what we want in totality and yet anyway hopefully let’s make dua that not only to the formal restrictions improve, but it’s also about the conditions. We should be making dua to Allah that the conditions improve, the circumstances improve so that we can get maximum benefit from the Masaajid and our lives can return to as close as normal as possible.”
While some masaajid have taken the decision to remain closed, others have implemented plans to accommodate more than one Jamat for the daily salaah including registering for congregational salaah.
