The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 29,240.
This is an increase of 1,837 from Thursday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 34 bringing the total to 611
The Western Cape has the most infections with 18,906, followed by Gauteng at 3,583, KwaZulu-Natal 2,428, Free State 231, North West 143, Mpumalanga 112, Limpopo 170, Eastern Cape 3,583, Northern Cape 52 and unallocated infections 32.
The total number of recoveries to date is 15,093 which translates to a rate of 52.4%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 680,175 this is an increase of 24,452 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably, we report 34 more COVID-19 related deaths- this brings the total national deaths to 611.”
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families.
