The management of the OR Tambo International Airport’s Musallah says it will not be opening the prayer facility for congregational salaah and it will remain closed.
On Tuesday, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that congregational prayer under level 3 would be allowed from 1 June with strict conditions.
Speaking to Radio Islam, OR Tambo Musallah’s Muhammad Wadee says the prayer facility will remain closed under the Level 3 lockdown regulations until further notice and until they are satisfied it is safe for the place of worship to be reopened.
“The management of the OR Tambo International Airport Musallah consulted with the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA). It is going to be very difficult for us to be able to comply with the regulations regarding opening places of worship and also the fear of people getting infected due to the number of travelers that would pass through or use the particular facility.”
While masaajid have been permitted to conduct salaah, in his address to the nation, Ramaphosa said congregations would be limited in size to 50 people or less, depending on the space available.
