President Cyril Ramaphosa will lead the call for a National Day of Prayer through a televised broadcast at 7:30PM on Tuesday.

In a statement, the Presidency says Ramspahosa is also expected to provide an update on provisions for the religious sector following a meeting of the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) which considered the inputs made by the sector in recent consultations with interfaith leaders.

Many are hoping that Ramaphosa will ease the regulations to allow public gatherings and prayers in congregation at places of worship which have been banned to stop the spread of the Coronavirus.

Last week the United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) said the Presidency has undertaken to study submissions made by several faith-based organizations who have appealed to Government to open places of worship under regulated protocols.

The President’s address will be broadcast live on television and radio and will be streamed live on a range of online platforms.
