COVID-19 Deaths Spike by 52 to 481, Infections Jump to 23,615

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 23,615. 

This is an increase of 1,032 from Sunday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 52 bringing the total to 481 

The Western Cape has the most infections with 15,396, followed by Gauteng at 2,993, KwaZulu-Natal 1,882, Free State 208, North West 109, Mpumalanga 102, Limpopo 132, Eastern Cape 2 748, Northern Cape 45 and unallocated infections 0.

The total number of recoveries to date is 11,917

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 596,777 this is an increase of 12,992 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report 52 more COVID-19 related deaths- this brings the total national deaths to 481.” 

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families.
