COVID-19 Deaths Rise to 247, Infections Spike to 13,524

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 13,524

This is an increase of 785 from Thursday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 9 bring the total to 247

The Western Cape has the most infections with 7,798, followed by Gauteng at 2,210, KwaZulu-Natal 1,482, Free State 151, North West 63, Mpumalanga 67, Limpopo 57, Eastern Cape 1,662, Northern Cape 34 and unallocated infections 0.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 421,555 this is an increase of 18,537, which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably we report a further 9 COVID-19 related deaths- this brings the total national deaths to 247. We are however encouraged by the rising number of recoveries which now stands at 6 083.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families and appreciation to the health workers who treated the patients.
