As the blessed month of Ramadan comes to an end, questions have been raised about how the day of Eid will be celebrated and how Eid Salaah will be rendered under the current COVID-19 lockdown.
Under the current level 4 COVID-19 lockdown regulations, public gatherings have been prohibited and prayers in congregation at places of worship also banned to stop the spread of COVID-19.
In a newsletter, the Jamaitul Ulama South Africa acknowledges that under the current lockdown regulations, Eid Salaah in the Masjid or Eidgah will unfortunately not be possible.
“Therefore, Eid Salaah may be performed at home provided there are four baligh (mature) males including an Imam.”
The Jamiat has also provided an alternative for those who cannot perform the Eid Salaah.
“Those at home who are unable to perform the Eid Salaah, due to not meeting the conditions of Eid Salaah, may perform two or four rakaats Nafl salaah individually without any takbirat or khutbah.”
The Jamiat says the time of Eid Salaah commences from approximately 15 minutes after sunrise until Zawwal.
