COVID-19 Deaths Jump to 161, Infections Rise to 8,232

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 8,232

This is an increase of 424 from Wednesday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 8 bringing the total to 161

The Western Cape has the most infections with 3,994, followed by Gauteng at 1,804, KwaZulu-Natal 1,204, Free State 134, North West 40, Mpumalanga 59, Limpopo 41, Eastern Cape 929, Northern Cape 27 and unallocated infections 0.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 292,153 this is an increase of 12,774, which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report 8 more COVID-19 related deaths: 2 from KwaZulu Natal and 6 from Western Cape. This brings the total national deaths to 161.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families and appreciation to the health workers who treated the patients.
