Parliamentarians were left in shock on Thursday after a virtual Parliamentary meeting to discuss the National Assembly’s upcoming programme was hacked with graphic pornographic images.
The meeting was taking place via video conferencing app Zoom.
Speaker Thandi Modise was singled out for verbal insults from the hackers.
The virtual meeting later resumed without further problems, but Modise and shocked MPs do not want it to happen again.
MPs condemned the hacking of the meeting as “sick” and “disturbing”.
Democratic Alliance (DA) chief whip Natasha Mazzone shared her support to Modise.
“Madam Speaker, I hope that you are right, no-one should ever have to suffer that kind of abuse and my heart goes out to you especially, this morning.”
Modise told MPs that a meeting on the Zoom platform at Britain’s House of Commons had also been hacked.
