As South Africa moves into day 2 of Level 4 lockdown regulations, the COVID-19 pandemic has so far claimed the lives of 16 Muslims or 13.7% of the 116 people that have died in the country.
South Africa has recorded 5,951 infections while there have been 2,382 recoveries from the pandemic according to the stats dated 1 May.
Globally, the coronavirus has infected 3,413,169 people while 239,711 have died from the pandemic and 1,086,525 have recovered.
Speaking to Radio Islam, Mohammed Wadee from Stats Muslim SA says the sixteen COVID-19 Muslim fatalities in the country is cause for great concern and sorrow.
“We plead to the Almighty that He grants them the highest stages in paradise and makes it easy in this time of difficulty for the family and friends of the deceased.”
Wadee says people need to take the necessary precautions and obey the lockdown regulations in South Africa which serves to protect citizens, their families and society in general.
“So, we need to obey the curfews, social distancing for the benefit of society. We need to treat ourselves as being infected and not harm anyone else, meaning that we need to ensure we do not harm a fellow person and thus we need to obey the laws and we need to trust Allah.”
Wadee has urged the Ummah to turn and repent to Allah, to return to His obedience and beg the Almighty particularity during the blessed month of Ramadan that He lifts the COVID-19 pandemic from the world so that life can get back to normal.
