Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma says it will be mandatory to wear cloth face masks when leaving home and a curfew will be imposed to ensure people stick to the lockdown regulations.
Dlamini-Zuma and Trade and Industry Minister Ebrahim Patel were providing details on Saturday on the classification of industries as part of the risk-adjusted strategy on re-opening the economy.
Dlamini-Zuma emphasized that the lockdown is very much still in place and residents must remain at home except if they are going to work, buy essential goods or seeking medical attention.
She says visiting friends, neighbours and relatives is still not allowed and while exercise will be permitted, it will be under very strict conditions.
Gyms will also remain closed.
“You will have to have your nose and mouth covered when you are in publc. You can use a scarf. Leave the N95 and surgical masks for frontline workers. There will be a curfew imposed, and the wearing of cloth masks outside the home will be mandatory.”
Dlamini-Zuma says if people can work from home, they should do so.
“People aged 60 and above should work from home. They should also stay at home as much as possible. Older people present with more severe symptoms.”
Dlamini-Zuma says while the country will move to level four from 1 May, if the rate of infection increases, the country will go back to level 5.
