The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 4,546
This is an increase of 185 from Saturday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 1 bring the total to 87.
The Western Cape has the most infections with 1,608, followed by the Gauteng at 1,331, KwaZulu-Natal 863, Free State 110, North West 28, Mpumalanga 23, Limpopo 31, Eastern Cape 535, Northern Cape 17 and unallocated infections 0.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 168,643 this is an increase of 7,639 from the last report.
“We regrettably report another COVID-19 related death (1) in the Western Cape, which increases the total number of deaths to 87.
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families and appreciation to the health workers who treated the patients.
The health minister has also announced that 217 Cuban Medical Brigade will arrive in South Africa.
“This is in response to the Government of the Republic of South Africa’s request to the Government of Cuba to offer us assistance and medical personnel support comprising of infectious diseases specialists, to support South Africa in its efforts to deal with COVID-19.”
Mkhize says the strong social and political solidarity and support that exists between the two countries have been seen in various development programmes.
