The Advocate for Muhammad and two others who are calling for the relaxation of the lockdown regulations has argued that the Muslim community is in pain because the doors of the Masaajid are closed.
Feroz Boda was arguing in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Thursday in a bid to declare certain parts of the lockdown regulations unconstitutional as it prohibits prayers Muslim daily prayers in Masaajid.
Boda argued that the lockdown regulations should be amended to allow the Masaajid to remain open during the lockdown under strict conditions.
He says the passengers travelling in a taxi is more risky than in a msajid because there is less space and it’s more claustrophobic.
Boda says there will be strict measures in place to ensure the social regulations are not breached and that at least about 4 people be allowed to attend including those that can hear the un-amplified Athan or call to prayer.
“They will have a mask, their own prayer mat, single file, one person at a time, temperature will be checked, put shoes away, make ablution, wash hands, mouth, nose, arms, feet, three times. No one faces each other. The prayer takes ten minutes maximum.”
Boda says the Muslim community is a mature community and respects the law.
