As the country enters the 11th day of the 21-day lockdown, photos have been circulating on social media showing a heavy army and police presence in Lenasia to ensure the community adheres to the rules and regulations of staying at home.
President Cyril Ramaphosa imposed the nationwide lockdown to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in South Africa.
The coronavirus has so far infected 1655 South Africans and claimed 11 lives.
According to Radio Islam reporter Ml Ahmed Waja who was on the scene in Lenasia, extension 1, the officials were being briefed about the unnecessary loitering around of residents in the suburb.
However, as per the rules and regulations of the lockdown, residents are allowed to leave their home if they need to buy essential items or seek medical assistance.
On Saturday, the Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital in Lenasia confirmed that it had admitted its first COVID-19 patient.
