Honeymoon Couple Stuck on Island Paradise

April 06, 2020

A South African couple on honeymoon, Olivia and Raul De Freitas, have been left stranded on an island in the Maldives.

The newlyweds became trapped on the island after the coronavirus outbreak prevented them from returning home.

The couple are now the only remaining guests at their five-star island resort in the Indian Ocean and are being waited on by the resort’s entire staff, who cannot leave until they do.

The couple arrived just married from South Africa, on Sunday, March 22. They planned to stay for six days. Now, Olivia, a 27-year-old teacher, and Raul, her 28-year-old butcher husband say they are concerned they will be become bankrupt if the lockdown in South Africa continues for much longer.

They say their travel agent had assured them that, whatever policy was forthcoming, in the wake of the virus, all South African citizens would be allowed back home. The pair added they were told to, “Go ahead and have a great time!”

Mrs. De Freitas said that everyone thinks they want to be stuck on a tropical island, until it actually happens.
