As South Africa enters the 12th day of the national lockdown, the Muslim community among many others have been in the forefront to assist with the pandemic.
While there is escalation in bad news on not only a day-to-day basis, minute by minute South Africa along with countries around the world, are fighting an unprecedented enemy.
Covid-19 is killing people and in South Africa alone the virus has infected 1686 people and claimed 12 lives.
Speaking to Radio Islam, NGO Awqaf SA’s Mickaeel Collier says the whole country including Muslims need to unite in the fight against the Coronavirus.
“Following global trends, we knew that it was going to be a matter of time before the Covid-19 pandemic hits South Africa We then gathered together ulama, various organizations and individuals to form a multi-disciplinary task team that would be able to address this pandemic in a coordinated and strategic approach.”
Collier says there is a change in dynamic at ground level.
“There is this willingness to cooperate. I think that among the relief organizations and also with regards to government views this particular pandemic. It is very overwhelming.”
