Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosasana Dlamini-Zuma says children will now be able to move between divorced parents with less trouble.
Ministers representing the coronavirus national command council were updating the nation on the revised lockdown regulations on Thursday.
Currently, the country has 2,506 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 34 deaths.
Before the lockdown and amended regulations, divorced parents with shared custody needed to show a court-approved co-parenting plan in order for children to move between them – after even such movement was initially banned entirely.
But this has now changed.
Dlamini-Zuma says moving children between parents will now be possible.
“You have to have either a court order, or there should be a family advocates papers, of if you don’t have those, you must at least have a birth certificate that shows the connection between you and the children that you are fetching or moving.”
South Africans are into the third week of the lockdown aimed at curbing the rapid spread of the coronavirus.
