The South African Hindu Maha Sabha has told Radio Islam that they have not given their support to The Majlis who’ve threatened to approach the courts in a bid to challenge the national lockdown regulations prohibiting large groups from attending daily prayers.

Attorney Zehir Omar who is representing The Majlis, apparently told a presenter from Islamic radio station Channel Islam International (CII) that he had the support of the African Christian Democratic Alliance and the Sabah movement, which is the head of the Hindu movement in South Africa.

The South African Hindu Maha Sabha’s Ashwin Trikamjee says Omar’s statement is fake.

“That is completely untrue. It’s rejected. I must reject it as being false because that is far from the truth. Nobody has even spoken to us about it.”

Trikamjee say they support President Ramaphosa’s call for social distancing.

“The Maha Saba’s stance is a very simple one and it’s in keeping with all the faith groups in South Africa that we unequivocally support the call of the president for a lockdown.”

Trikamjee says he is very surprised that Omar would dare to quote the organization without even having spoken to them.
