The Pretoria Muslim Trust has confirmed to Radio Islam that it has performed the first COVID-19 burial in Gauteng.
It’s understood the foreign national passed away at the Pretoria East Hospital.
Spokesperson Zain Suliman says the Janaza was performed within the rules and regulations of the lockdown in South Africa.
“The person passed away at the Pretoria East Hospital. We picked up the body from there. Then we proceeded to the graveyard and performed the Janaza. It’s very important for the people to know that the minimal amount of family members were there and a minimum amount of burial members required.”
Suliman has urged the Muslim community to respect the rules and regulations when performing Muslim funerals.
“We are urging the Muslim community if they know someone who’s got COVID-19, they need to abide by the laws of the government because these are for our own safety.
Gauteng tops the list with the highest number of COVID-19 cases per province, followed by the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
