Shiraz Mohamed Reportedly Returns Home After 2 Years

It has emerged that South African photojournalist Shiraz Mohamed who was kidnapped in Syria has returned home with the help of Turkey’s intelligence agency.

Reuters reports there was no immediate confirmation of Mohamed’s return from International Relations (Dirco), Mohamed’s family or the Turkish government.

Mohamed was taken hostage more than two years ago on 10 January 2017 in Darkoush, while travelling with Gift of the Givers on a relief mission to Syria.

He managed to escape IS militants in December and fled to neigbouring Turkey.

Gift of the Givers negotiated for his release but are no longer involved in the matter.

Mohamed’s mother has accused the relief organization of endangering her son’s life by tweeting about his escape.
