The Saudi Arabian Hajj and Umrah ministry has granted South Africa a quota of three thousand five hundred to perform Hajj in 1441/2020.
This was announced by the South African Hajj and Umrah Council (Sahuc) who is currently in the kingdom to sign protocol agreements for the forthcoming hajj season.
While the quota granted to South Africa is the same as last year, in a statement, Sahuc says the Hajj and Umrah ministry will consider an additional one thousand hujjaj as requested by the hajj body.
“At the time discussion, we emphasized that the news of an increase in the quota reach South Africa sooner rather than later Insha’Allah.”
With an approximate waiting period of between 4 to 5 years and more than 23,000 first time hujjaj that are still on the list, there is hope that the Saudi Hajj and Umrah Ministry consider more significant increases in the quota for forthcoming pilgrimages.
Sahuc has thanked Almighty Allah and extended its gratitude to King Salman, the Hajj and Umrah Ministry, the Saudi embassy in South Africa, the International Relations Department in South Africa for the increase in the Hajj quota and the Muslim community for their support.
