December 18, 2019

Husain Mohamed – Radio Islam News – 18.12.2019

Kidnapped photojournalist Shiraaz Mohamed has made contact with his ex-wife after escaping from his captors in Darkoush, Syria.

It was reported that Mohamed’s former wife, Shaaziya Brijlal, said Mohamed had made contact with her on Saturday, while with a group locals who helped him escape.

Mohamed was abducted in January 2017 while in Syria to photograph and report on the suffering of the Syrian people.

Gift of the Givers also confirmed his escape.

The organisation’s Imtiaz Sooliman says he was contacted on Saturday by people who helped Mohamed.

“On Saturday afternoon, we got a call from people who said they have Shiraaz with them. They knew how to get hold of us due to the awareness we created around the disappearance of Shiraaz.”

Sooliman said a picture of Shiraaz was sent to them confirming that it indeed is Shiraaz.

Details around his escape are still vague.
