Eskom has implemented Stage 2 load shedding which is expected to last until 11 o’ clock Saturday night.
The power utility says the cuts are as a result of a shortage of capacity because of a number of generating units which are still out of service due to breakdowns.
Eskom says load shedding is required to create capacity to replenish water reserves for pumped storage schemes.
Eskom heaved load shedding to stage 4 yesterday, a day after it started rotational power cuts.
It says there is also an improvement in managing wet coal, with only one station experiencing coal-handling problems, as a result of the rain.
Eskom has customers to reduce demand as a concerted collective effort can help to avoid or lessen the level of load shedding.
