Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng leader John Moodey has denied that the party is losing ground in the city of Johannesburg and Tshwane because of the elction of Helen Zille as Federal Council chair.

On Thursday the party’s Tshwane Mayor Stevens Mokgalapa was removed through a motion of no confidence while the Tshwane Council also voted out DA Speaker of council Katlego Mathebe on the same day.

On Wednesday, the African National Congress’ (ANC) Geoff Makhubo became the new Johannesburg mayor yesterday after the DA’s Herman Mashaba resigned from the position in October.

Speaking to Radio Islam, Moodey says Zille is not to blame.

“No, I would not believe so.”

Moodey also denied that eleven members intend crossing the floor to the ANC saying he has every confidence that the member and the DA’s coalitions parties are committed to the partnership.
