Eskom has announced it will be implementing stage 2 load shedding from 4pm until 11pm on Thursday.
In a statement, the power utility says the system is severely constrained and that there is a shortage of generating capacity.
Eskom says load shedding is necessary to protect the electricity grid from total collapse.
It says the severe supply constraints is due to the high levels of unplanned breakdowns.
Eskom has urged customers to check their load shedding schedules or municipal websites for further details.
