The Hawks says they have managed to destabilize a terror group in South Africa that had been plotting to destroy targets around the country during Black Friday.

The crime-fighting unit says four members of the National Christian Resistance Movement (NCRM) were arrested in Klipriver in Johannesburg.

They appeared in the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga on Monday for their alleged involvement in terror activities.

Sixty-year-old Harry Johannes Knoesen, 54-year-old Riana Heymans and brother’s 55-year-old Eric and 49-year-old Errol Abrams appeared briefly on charges of contravening the Terrorism and Related Activities Act and harbouring a wanted suspect.

The Hawks says they have been working on this case for about two years and kept Knoesen under surveillance.

Speaking to Radio Islam, the Hawks Hangwani Mulaudzi says they want to make sure the country is aware of what is happening.

“Based on the fact that people do become so oblivious of these things, they think it’s just people who are taking chances. But if you have to go into their social media pages, you’ll have a different picture of what we are dealing with.”

Knoesen, who was arrested on Thursday, is a retired pastor and former SANDF member. He is alleged to be the head of the NCRM, a right-wing organisation also known as the Crusaders.
