As the globe marks World Aids Day, the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) says the war against HIV/Aids is continuing with a number of challenges.

This year’s World Aids Day theme is ‘Ending The HIV/Aids Epidemic: Community By Community’.

A recent report by the United Nations (UN) has revealed that more than 7 million people in South Africa are living with the virus.

The UN’s general assembly is calling on countries across the world to ensure that at least 90% of people living with Aids receive comprehensive prevention services by next year.

Speaking to Radio Islam, the TAC’s Anele Yawa says a lot more needs to be done to win the war against the epidemic.

“We are still struggling. As much as there is a lot of improvement that has been made globally and in our country, we still need more. Many people are newly infected with HIV, many people are living with HIV and Aids.

World Aids Day launched 31 years ago today takes place on 1 December every year reflecting on efforts aimed at fighting HIV/Aids and showing support for people living with the disease.
