Saudi Arabia’s Umrah and Hajj Ministry has announced that more than a million Umrah visas have been issued during the current season.

Saudi Gazette reports that 1,050,665 Umrah visas were issued while the total number of pilgrims who arrived in the Kingdom reached 838,464.

In a report, the ministry highlighted that during the last Umrah season, more than seven million foreign pilgrims performed Umrah since the season started in late October 2018.

The largest number of the pilgrims arrived from Pakistan followed by Indonesia and India.

The Umrah and Hajj Ministry recently amended the rules for travel operators allowing extensions of the Umrah programs and purchasing services packages through the “Maqam” portal.

The Maqam portal is an online platform under which Muslims from around the world can apply for an Umrah package digitally.

The portal also allows the issuance of electronic visas without the need for paperwork and that is in coordination with the Ministry of Haj and Umrah, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Information Center.
