The MD of Global Migration says South Africa’s Home Affairs department’s decision to sign a waiver which allows foreign children permission to enter the country without carrying additional supporting documents is expected to boost tourism.

The waiver has been applicable since Friday after Minister Aaron Motsoaledi signed the document.

It allows foreign children to enter the country without carrying documents such as birth certificates and consent letters.

Speaking to Radio Islam, Global Migration’s Leon Isaacson the decision has been welcomed by families and tourists intending to visit South Africa.

“It means that home affairs is actually able to fulfil their mandate and not hinder tourism as has been the case for many people who just said it was too much trouble to get the documentation and at the time it was implemented there was effectively little or no warning so people couldn’t prepare.”

South African children are still required to provide supporting documents, in line with the requirements of the Children’s Act, while the same applied to unaccompanied foreign children.
