A small number of women have found refuge from Chinese authorities across the border in Kazakhstan. However, the stories they tell do not only haunt them but have shaken the world in the last 24 hours.
They spoke of forced abortions being carried out in China’s Muslim-majority province of Xinjiang, while others spoke of forced parenting plans being implanted in them against their will. One of the woman talked of her rape ordeal and sexual humiliation.
The allegations come as China expands a year-long crackdown on its Muslim minority, which not only includes Uighurs but other ethnic groups such as the Kazakhs as well.
While almost all the reports could not be verified, Human Rights groups have said that they have found a common pattern of abuse directed at females curbing their ability to reproduce.
