There is violent protest action on the K43, Lawley and R558 roads near Lenasia South.
Residents of the informal settlements have blocked the road with rocks, burning tyres and even allegedly torched a car since yesterday afternoon.
It’s understood they are protesting over the demolishing of illegal shacks in the area.
The JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar has urged motorists to use alternative routes.
“There was violent protest action since late yesterday afternoon along the K43 in the vicinity of the R558. So motorists are advised to make use of the Golden Highway this morning and to avoid the K43 due to that violent protest.”
Minnaar says officers have been sent to the area and will be monitoring the protest.
