The Lenasia South Civic Association says they want government to remove the shacks that have mushroom on Naran’s Farm and along the K43.
Residents took to the streets on Friday over land invasions in the area barricading roads with rocks and burning tyres.
The residents are also protesting over cable theft, house robberies, property devaluation and non-payments of municipal services by land invaders.
The Lenasia South Civic Association’s Joy Govender says they’ve come to a point where government doesn’t want to listen to them.
“We want the Red Ants to remove these shacks. We’re not going to tolerate government sitting back and playing ‘dead and dumb’. So we want government here, we want to hand them a memorandum. Yes it’s an impromptu thing that happened today, but we want government to understand the plight of Lenasia South. We’re saying ‘no’ to land invasion.”
Residents in Kliptown and Protea South have also joined communities from Lenasia South, Ennerdale, Zakariyya Park and Eldorado Park in voicing their anger and frustration over illegal land occupation.
