One of Lenasia’s oldest primary schools has received massive boost to its library and resources Centre.
Habbatul Ilm Trust, together with the Lenasia Muslim School and 27Four have contributed more than half a million Rand to upgrade the library at Flamingo Primary School.
The revamped library and resource centre which have over six thousand books, computers, a smart board and internet access among other features was officially launched on Tuesday.
Flamingo Primary School principal Natalie Naidoo has thanked the various donors for their contributions toward the project which was started about three years ago.
Naidoo says the upgraded library resources centre will go a long way to inculcate a habit of reading in learners and the community of Lenasia.
“Learners would be learning not in the conventional classroom, but in a different space and environment, thus ensuring essential reading skills, browsing the web, listening skills and there’s too many to mention. The list is endless. Ultimately learners and educators will all benefit from the revamped library.”
Habbatul Ilm Trust’s Ml Sulaimaan Ravat says the assistance of the various organizations towards the project is about entrenching the philosophy in the hearts and minds of the upcoming generation that if they want to succeed, they have to be avid readers.
“By assisting with this particular project, we hope not only to assist this particular school, but to ensure that these projects become a catalyst to ensure that reading becomes part of the daily routine of especially the youth and the students.”
Renowned journalist and author Fakir Hassan also contributed a number of his books to the library resources Centre.
