Advocacy group Accountability Now says Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has been misled and misguided by her team with regards to the damning findings in her report about Pravin Gordhan.

Mkhwebane has laid down the law to President Cyril Ramaphosa giving him thirty days to take disciplinary action against Gordhan for violating the Constitution and deliberately misleading Parliament about the SARS rogue unit and his meeting with a member of the Gupta family.

In her report released on Friday, Mkhwebane found Gordhan guilty of improper conduct, abuse of power and maladministration as well as being guilty of breaching the executive code of ethics by deliberately misleading Parliament.

Speaking to Radio Islam, Advocate Paul Hoffman says Gordhan has serious misgivings about Mkhwebane’s impartiality.
“Pravin Gordhan has accused her of being biased and of being a stranger to the fact and the law that are applicable to his situation.”

Hoffman says the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are also being opportunistic when it comes to Gordhan.

“The EFF is simply being opportunistic. The EFF is in trouble with its involvement with the VBS Baking saga and anything it can do to run interference on the system will enable it to say ‘look this it a rotten system that is pointing fingers at us.’ That’s why they are taking the line that they’ve taken in relation to Mr Gordhan’s travails.”

Hoffman says the he hopes the court will recognize that this sort of case should not be allowed to trundle along through the corridors of the judiciary and should in the interests of the South African people be finalized as soon as possible.
