The Champions League Final, The ICC Cricket World Cup or the Night of Power which is Allah states in the Qur’an is better than a thousand months.
This should be a no brainer as Ramadan is one of the blessed and holiest months on the Islamic calendar, with no guarantee that you will ever experience another Ramadan again.
With the 27th night of Ramadan being on Saturday and possibly being Layaltul Qadr and coinciding with the Champions League Final and Cricket World Cup matches, there are some that are battling the moral dilemma of engaging in a frenzy of sport or spiritual ecstasy.
Esteemed scholar Ml Ebrahim Bham says while there is a general and fanatical interest in sport amongst youngsters and even some elders, sport cannot be given priority over religion or the blessed month of Ramadan.
“On the night of Laylatul Qadr, Allah sends down his envoy, the angels to come and see and to listen to what the people are doing. He sends down the angels and amongst them He sends down Hazrat Jibreel (AS) till the time of Fajr and at that time what will we be doing?” Will we be performing salaah or will we be watching Mo Salah?”
Ml Bham has however urged people not to be judgmental of others.
As part Radio Islam’s Ramadan focus we are encouraging and urging Muslims to rather use the blessed night of the 27th of Ramadan to answer the call of Allah and leave the ball.
