Gauteng Premier David Makhura Appoints New Cabinet

Gauteng Premier David Makhura has appointed his executive council for the sixth administration.

The new MEC’s will be sworn in at the Emoyeni Conference Centre in Parktown on Thursday.

Makhura says he has given serious thought about the women and men who would constitute the new Executive Council.

“These newly-appointed MECs will put the interest of the people first and meet the highest ethical and service delivery standards in the conduct of their work.”

Makhura’s deputy in the ANC, Panyaza Lesufi has been moved from Education to Finance and e-Government while Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko has replaced Lesufi as the head of the Education portfolio.

Thuliswa Nkabinde-Khawe takes on the Social Development portfolio while Jacob Mamabolo has been appointed as the MEC of Public Transport and Road Infrastructure.

The rest of Makhura’s cabinet comprises of the following:

  • MEC for Community Safety: Faith Mazibuko
  • MEC for Human Settlements, Urban Planning and Cogta: Lebogang Maile
  • MEC for Infrastructure Development and Property Management: Tasneem Motara
  • MEC for Economic Development, Agriculture and Environment: Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa
  • MEC for Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation: Mbali Hlophe
  • MEC for Health: Bandile Masuku

Makhura says the team collectively represents the ANC’s accumulated governance experience, new energy and fresh ideas required to fulfill the mandate of the 6th Administration.
