David Makhura has been re-elected as the Premier of Gauteng in the Provincial Legislature.

Makhura received 38 votes while the Democratic Alliances (DA) Solly Msimanga received 32 at the sitting on Wednesday presided over by Judge Dustin Mlambo.

African National Congress (ANC) member and outgoing MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi nominated Makhura, who accepted the nomination.

Makhura congratulated elected members of provincial legislature and says the government will serve all people of Gauteng on non-partisan basis regardless of whom they voted for.

Makhura has indicated he’ll announce his cabinet by the end of the week saying it’ll be younger, energetic and more educated to modernize so that citizens don’t have to face arrogant bureaucrats to get services.

“The system is getting tired, it needs to be kicked by the youth. Bureaucracy  gets too comfortable. We need young people here in the legislature.”

Ntombi Mekgwe was elected as speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature while Vuyo Manamela was elected has her deputy.
