Lenasia resident and former Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Ismail Vadi will be leaving parliament and the Gauteng provincial legislature after having served as a public representative for the past 25 years.

Vadi was elected as an African National Congress (ANC) Member of Parliament after the first democratic elections held in April 1994 and served as an MP until November 2010, when he was moved to the provincial legislature to serve as the MEC for Roads and Transport.

He held this post for over eight years.

Vadi says it has been a great privilege and honour to serve as a public representative for a quarter century.

“I want to thank the ANC; my family, comrades and friends, and the people of our country for giving me an opportunity to serve in this capacity.”

Vadi also served on the parliamentary committees on education, public service and administration amongst others including chairing a sub-committee of the Constitutional Assembly that drafted the country’s constitution.

Vadi says he is not retiring from political and civic activism and will continue to work at the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation and the ANC.
