An Islamic scholar and former student of Darul Uloom Zakariyya has told  Radio Islam, Sri Lanka is in shock after more than 200 people were killed and about 407 other wounded in a series of coordinated bombings that struck churches and hotels on Easter Sunday.

Most of the victims were killed in three churches where worshippers were attending Easter Sunday services while three other bombings struck luxury hotels, the Cinnamon Grand, the Kingsbury and Shangri-La located in the heart of the capital killing at least 35 foreigners.

Sri Lanka Police say several of the attacks were carried out by suicide bombers.

Speaking to Radio Islam from Sri Lanka, Ml Mafaz Najmuddeen says Sri Lanka’s government has declared social media blackout including a curfew from 6pm to 6am local time.

“The country is calmed down Alhamdulillah because of the social media blackout. The government has taken steps to stop all WhatsApp’s, Facebook and Instagram. There is a curfew throughout the country, so people are not going out accept in the rural areas. We are free to go to masjid and come back Alhamdulillah.”

Ml Najmuddeen says there are some Muslims among those that have been killed.

We get the rumours from the social media that few Muslim bodies were inside the Christian church and they accused them to be the suicide bombers inside the Christian churches, but that’s not official yet.”

Among the dead were Japanese, Dutch, British, American and Portuguese tourists.
